Sell Cartier Watches with Clear Advice and a Direct Offer
Cartier watches are often gifts, family pieces or a first luxury purchase, and many owners are not sure exactly which model they have. That is fine. When you sell Cartier watches to Kings & Queens, we identify the model, check the details in person and buy the watch outright for our own stock. You won't be asked to consign it, wait for a buyer or pay a commission out of the agreed price.
This page explains which Cartier collections we buy, how to tell them apart, what affects an offer and how the process works from first message to bank transfer. If you would like to sell Cartier pieces quickly, start by sending photos on WhatsApp to +44 (0)7888 888835 for a free, no-obligation initial valuation.

The Cartier Collections We Buy
Cartier has been making wristwatches for well over a century, and its shapes are some of the most recognisable in watchmaking. These are the collections we see most often when people sell Cartier watches to us.
- Santos: created in 1904 for the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, with a square case and exposed screws on the bezel and bracelet. The current Santos de Cartier, relaunched in 2018, has the QuickSwitch system for changing straps and SmartLink bracelet sizing. Our Cartier Santos page shows what we have in stock.
- Tank: designed in 1917, with variations including the Tank Louis Cartier, Tank Française, Tank Américaine and Tank Must, in sizes from small to large.
- Ballon Bleu: launched in 2007, with a rounded case and the crown protected by a curved guard.
- Panthère de Cartier: first introduced in 1983 and brought back in 2017, with a soft, supple bracelet that wears almost like jewellery.
- Pasha de Cartier: introduced in 1985, with a round case and a distinctive crown cover.
We also look at the Santos-Dumont, Baignoire, Ronde and other collections, along with vintage pieces. When you sell Cartier models that are less common, send clear photos and we will identify them for you.

How to Identify the Cartier You Want to Sell
If your Cartier came as a gift, the paperwork may be long gone, and that is common. The case shape usually narrows it down straight away: square with screws is a Santos, rectangular with vertical sides is a Tank, round with a crown guard is a Ballon Bleu. Size and metal then tell us much more.
The Tank family needs a closer look, because its versions differ in ways that matter to buyers. The Tank Française has a bracelet that flows directly into the case, the Tank Américaine is longer and curved to follow the wrist, and the Tank Louis Cartier is the classic version, usually worn on a leather strap. The Tank Must is a pared-back version of the classic shape. If you are unsure which one you have, a straight-on photo of the dial and a side view of the case are usually enough for us to tell.
Cartier case backs carry a model number and an individual serial number, while the catalogue reference, such as WSSA0030, appears on the warranty paperwork. A clear photo of the case back is the single most useful picture you can send when you sell Cartier watches online. Please don't try to open it yourself.
Many Cartier dials also hide a tiny signature within one of the Roman numerals, and the crown is usually set with a blue cabochon. Details like these are part of how we authenticate a watch in person, and they are hard to copy convincingly.
What Affects the Offer When You Sell Cartier
Demand for the specific model, size and metal is the starting point. Then the condition and completeness of your watch decide the rest. These are the questions we ask most often.
Metal, size and movement
Steel, two-tone and solid gold versions of the same model are valued quite differently, as are small, medium and large sizes. Some Cartier models are automatic and others are quartz. A quartz watch that has stopped may only need a new battery, but if a battery has been left in for years it can leak, so tell us if the watch has not run for a long time. You can still sell Cartier watches that are not running.
Bracelet, straps and the crown
We check the bracelet for stretch, the condition of the clasp or deployant buckle, and whether all the links are present. On QuickSwitch models, any extra straps add to the set. The blue cabochon on the crown should be intact and original, because a missing or replacement stone is one of the first things a buyer notices.
Case condition and polishing
Cartier cases combine flat polished surfaces and sharp edges, especially on the Santos and Tank. Light wear is normal. Heavy polishing softens the edges and can thin the case, so if you plan to sell Cartier pieces soon, leave them as they are rather than having them refinished.
Service history and originality
Receipts from a Cartier service, or from a reputable independent watchmaker, show when the watch was last overhauled and what was done. We also confirm that the dial, hands, crown and bracelet are correct for the model. You can still sell Cartier watches with no service history or papers at all; we authenticate every watch in person.
Diamonds: factory versus aftermarket
Cartier sets diamonds on many models, from Panthère bezels to gem-set Ballon Bleu dials, and those factory pieces are part of the brand's own catalogue. Diamonds added later by a third party are judged very differently by most buyers. We can still value an aftermarket-set watch, and we will explain how the stones affect the offer before you decide anything.
Paperwork That Helps When You Sell Cartier Watches
Cartier's warranty certificate is the key document. It records the model reference and serial number and is completed by the retailer at the point of sale, so it ties your watch to its original purchase. Older watches may have a paper certificate or booklet rather than a card, and both are useful.
Beyond the certificate, look for the original receipt, the presentation box and outer packaging, instruction booklets, and any receipts from a Cartier service. If you sell Cartier watches with a full set like this, it is valued higher, and it also gives the next owner confidence. Missing items are common, though, so don't let a lost box stop you asking for a valuation.
Why Sell Cartier Watches to a Watch Dealer?
Cartier sits between jewellery and watchmaking, so owners sometimes take a watch to a jeweller who buys gold by weight, or list it privately alongside other belongings. Neither tends to reflect what a Cartier watch is as a watch. When you sell Cartier watches to a dealer who stocks them, the offer is based on the model, condition and completeness, not just the metal.
A private sale can work, but it means handling questions, viewings and the risk of a fraudulent payment yourself. Selling to us means one agreed price, an in-person check and payment by bank transfer. For more background, read our article on selling a Cartier watch, or our general guide to selling a luxury watch, which covers the other brands we buy.
Selling a Cartier You Were Given or Inherited
Many Cartier watches start life as gifts: an anniversary Tank, a graduation Santos, a Panthère passed down from a parent. Owners who sell Cartier pieces like these are often unsure what the watch is, whether it is genuine, or whether it is worth repairing first. We can help with all three at a single appointment.
There is no need to service, polish or replace anything before you come in. Bring the watch as it is, with any paperwork you can find, and we will identify the model, authenticate it in person and explain the offer. If you are dealing with an estate, our article on selling inherited watches covers the mistakes families most often make when they sell Cartier and other watches.
How to Sell Cartier Watches to Kings & Queens
- Send us photos. On WhatsApp, share the dial, case, case back, bracelet or strap, and any paperwork you have.
- Receive a free valuation. We reply with an initial indication from your photos. It is free and you are under no obligation.
- Visit or post. Come to a private appointment in Hatton Garden, or if you can't visit, post the watch to us fully insured.
- Authentication. A specialist examines the watch and its paperwork in person and confirms its condition.
- Payment. Once the price is agreed and the watch is authenticated, we pay you by secure bank transfer, with no hidden fees or commission.
In practice, to sell Cartier watches to us takes a WhatsApp conversation followed by one visit or an insured delivery. If anything about the watch is unclear, we will explain it rather than guess.
Preparing to Sell Cartier Watches
- Leave the case and bracelet unpolished.
- Look for the warranty certificate, box, booklets, receipts and any spare links or straps.
- If the watch is quartz and has stopped, tell us; don't worry about replacing the battery first.
- Take daylight photos of the dial, the case back and the side of the case showing the crown.
- Note where and roughly when the watch was bought, if you know.
If the watch needs a service or repair, our sister business Alpha Group offers servicing and repairs in the same building, so a watch that needs attention is not a barrier to selling it.
Part Exchange Your Cartier
Rather than sell Cartier watches outright, some clients prefer to trade up. With part exchange, the value of your Cartier is offset against the watch you are buying in a single transaction. You might move from a Tank to a Santos, or from a Cartier to a Rolex Datejust. If your Cartier is worth more than the watch you choose, the difference is paid to you.

Sell Cartier: Your Questions Answered
Can I sell Cartier watches without the box and papers?
Yes. Many Cartier watches were gifts and the paperwork has been lost. We authenticate every watch in person. A complete set is valued higher, so anything you have kept is worth bringing.
Do you buy ladies' Cartier watches?
Yes. We buy ladies' and men's Cartier watches, including small Tank, Panthère and Ballon Bleu models, in steel, two-tone and gold.
My Cartier is quartz and has stopped. Can I still sell it?
Yes. Tell us it has stopped when you send photos. We assess the watch in person and take any work it needs into account.
Does it matter if my Cartier has a replacement strap?
Not much. Leather straps wear out and are often replaced. We note it during authentication, and if you still have the original deployant buckle, bring it, because that is worth more to the set than the strap itself.
How do I get paid when I sell Cartier to you?
By secure bank transfer, once the price is agreed and the watch has been authenticated in person. Nothing is deducted in fees or commission, so the agreed price is what you receive.
Do I need an appointment to sell Cartier watches in person?
Yes. All visits to our Hatton Garden showroom are by appointment, which keeps them private. Call 0330 043 7777 or message us on WhatsApp to arrange a time.
Can I sell Cartier watches that need a service?
Yes. Tell us what you know about the watch's history and we will take its condition into account. You don't need to arrange a service or a new battery before selling.
Are you an authorised Cartier retailer?
No. Kings & Queens is an independent dealer and is not an authorised retailer for Cartier or any other brand.
Is there a charge for a valuation?
No. Every valuation is free and without obligation, so you can find out where you stand before deciding to sell Cartier pieces at all.
