Royal Oak
Launched in 1972 and designed by Gérald Genta, the Royal Oak introduced the idea of a luxury sports watch in steel. Its octagonal bezel with eight hexagonal screws, integrated bracelet and Tapisserie dial are recognisable across a room. Royal Oak Offshore
Introduced in 1993, the Offshore took the Royal Oak design and made it larger and bolder, usually as a chronograph. Many are fitted with rubber straps or rubber-clad pushers and crowns, and materials range from steel and gold to titanium, ceramic and forged carbon. Code 11.59 and the wider collection

Audemars Piguet makes factory gem-set versions of the Royal Oak and Offshore, with diamonds on the bezel, dial or bracelet. Stones added later by a third party are viewed very differently by most buyers and can complicate servicing with the brand. Reading an Audemars Piguet Reference
AP references are longer than most. A full Royal Oak reference such as 15500ST.OO.1220ST.01 starts with the model number, then a code for the case material, then codes for the bracelet and dial. ST stands for stainless steel, OR for pink gold, BA for yellow gold and BC for white gold. The case number is engraved on the case back, and it should match the number on your certificate.
